“Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
I am concerned with what is happening in America today.
I look and I see a country truly divided. Half the country liberal and half the country conservative. Then I reflect and think, “isn’t that the way it’s supposed to be?” Most of the great marriages that I have encountered are a combination of opposite attraction (extrovert vs introvert, more strategic vs more tactical, more optimistic vs more pessimistic). One might not think they would work on first impression, yet they do! There are, of course, innumerable reasons for this. But normally, despite their differences, good marriages all come down to a common belief in devotion to family, God, and country. These three pillars are the strength upon which not only a marriage but a country can not only survive, but thrive through Unity.
Unity – the state of being one, the state of fact of being united or combined into one, as parts of a whole, unification.
Currently in America, it appears that we are not thinking about our American Family, God seems to be no longer welcome and our country being United seems to have taken a back seat to party politics.
How can this possibly be?
I am concerned about what is happening to America today.
I see unrest and discontent in the streets. I see people fighting with other people and I am sad. I read and note virulent exchanges on social media by former life-long friends with opposite views, who now won’t talk to each other. What I don’t see is human decency and understanding. I don’t see compassion and love. I don’t see people trying to understand that people think differently about issues.
People think differently because we are all made different and instead of violence there should be appreciation for the opposite view. Remember — opposites attract! We need to Unify!
In 1787 our Founding Fathers proposed a stronger national government to take the place of the Articles of the Confederation. It was extremely controversial, yet, through debate and compromise, controversy and tedious detail, 267 documents of the Continental Congress’ evolution illustrated the growth of a government, from a legislative body called together in the crisis of war to an intricate system of checks and balances! These documents essentially gave birth to the America we cherish today. They provided a path to unity.
We need to remember that and put aside our differences, for there is no other country in the world that can do what we can do, nor allow the freedoms we have been so blessed to inherit.
We are a melting pot of opposites and that is what makes us great. We cannot allow one station to show rioting and unrest and the other to show nothing is going on. The media negatively impacts American lives, by trying to sway people to “their” way of thinking. Both sides need to look past that and we need to focus on the truths that are “self-evident” and those things we hold dear. We must remember the three pillars : Family – God & Country!
Spartans of Invictus – as Emerson said, go where there is no path and leave a trail for others to follow. We must lead when others are afraid to do so. We can change the world! YOU can change the world. We must make a difference and embrace the different…and always Remain Unconquered.
I am concerned about what is happening to America today…because I love this country and I love all of you. I challenge us all to help lead the charge to a “UNITED” States of America.
God Bless and keep you all healthy, happy and safe! Be resilient and calm in the face of the storm and have a wonderful Thanksgiving…because there really is a lot to be thankful for.
Remain Unconquered,
Jim
