This year, the winner by a landslide was K9s For Warriors – the nation’s largest provider of service dogs for veterans. Determined to end veteran suicide, K9s For Warriors provides highly-trained service dogs to military veterans suffering from PTSD, traumatic brain injury and/or military sexual trauma. With the majority of dogs coming from high-kill rescue shelters, this innovative program allows the K9/Warrior team to build an unwavering bond that facilitates their collective healing and recovery. On hand at the event to receive the $25,000 check was Jamie Benjamin, along with her trusty service dog, Deacon. It was a pleasure to hear directly from Jamie how Deacon has helped her cope with PTSD after her military service, and changed her life significantly for the better.
